Elgin is located in the Moray region, in Scotland, and is the smallest city in the countr. It lies about thirty six miles (57.6km) from Inverness, and sixty four miles (102.4km) from Aberdeen. Elgin has a busy city centre with many of the large high street names, with also many specialist shops. The city is well known for it's whisky, and has several local distilleries including Glenmoray, Gordon & MacPhail and Glen Elgin, most of which have open days for the public and also whisky trails.

Places of Interest in Elgin:

The ruin of Elgin Cathedral is located on North College Street, and was once said to be the most beautiful cathedral in the country, and as popular as St Andrews Cathedral. These days it is no more than a shell, but it does keep it's original facade. Interesting pieces include the Pictish cross slab, at the centre of the ruins, also the broken gravestones, with their memento mori of skulls and crossbones. Elgin Museum is one of the oldest museums in the United Kingdom, and dates back to the mid nineteenth century.
