Livingston is a town located in West Lothian, Scotland. The town lies about thirty miles East of Glasgow, and fifteen miles (25km) West of Edinburgh. Livingston is the largest town in West Lothian, and has many residential areas, including Knightebridge, Ladywell, Craigshill, Uphall Station and many more. The surrounding area of the town used to be a Shale oil area, and this was oil that was extracted from shale. By the late nineteenth century, more than three million tons of shale was extracted per annum, but the output decreased by the early twentieth century due to the discovery of liquid oil.
Livingston has one of the largest indoor shopping centres in the country, and was completed back in two thousand and eight, and there are over one hundred and fifty shops and places to eat and drink. There are many well known retail chains, as well as an outdoor restaurant and a Winter garden. The central bus terminal is located close to the two shopping centres on Almondvale Avenue, and has services to many local towns and villages. The major bus operator in the town is First Edinburgh, and other operators include Stagecoach and E&M Horsburgh.
