Pembroke Rental Cars

Pembroke is a town located in the county of Pembrokeshire, in West Wales. The town lies on the South Pembrokeshire Peninsula near the estuary of the River Cleddau, at the base of a valley. The Main street in the town runs the full length of the town, and has many shops, restaurants and cafes. There are also many Tudor and Georgian houses and a couple of historic churches.

Pembroke is ideally located as a base for tourists who want to explore the county of Pembrokeshire, and is close to the holiday resort towns of Tenby and Saundersfoot. Also the historic dockyard towns of Milford Haven and Pembroke Dock are a short distance away.

Pembroke Castle is a medieval castle located near the River Cleddau, and had major restoration work completed in the early twentieth century. The castle was acquired by William Marshall during the late twelth century, and planned to turn the wood and earth fort into a stone castle.

During the late thirteenth century more buildings were added to the inner ward, including a large hall. a fifty five step stairway was also built and led to a large limestone cave located beneath the castle. The cave might have been used as a sallyport or boathouse, where people or cargo may have been transported. The castle nowadays is jointly owned by Pembroke Town Council and the family of Sir Ivor Phillips. The castle is the biggest privatly owned castle in the country and is open to the public.
