Plymouth is a city located on the beatiful coast of Devon, approximately one hundred and ninety miles from London. It lies between the mouths of the rivers Tamar and Plym. Plymouth dates back to the Bronze age and later became a trading post for the Romans.

Plymouth is famous for It's Naval presence and was a major force in Britain's Naval defence in World war two. This led to Plymouth being a major target and was partially destroyed during this war. The centre of Plymouth had to be rebuilt after the war.

During the Industrial revolution Plymouth became one of the most important shipping ports in the UK. Plymouth's population today is in excess of a quarter of a million people and growing. Today Plymouth's economy is mostly serviced based, but ship building is still an important Industry in Plymouth.

Plymouth city museum and art gallery is owned and run by Plymouth city council. It is free admission and is open from 10.00am to 5.00pm from Tuesday to Friday, and Saturdays 10..00am to 5.00pm. Bank holiday Mondays are the same as Saturdays.

Barbican theatre is located in castle street Plymouth. The theatre produces contemporary dance and new theatre.
